When Was the Fire Poker Invented?

The history of the fire poker goes back to the 18th century. The poker is named after the stick used to move the cards around, which is called a poker. The first poker was made of wood and it was used in India. The French colonists introduced the game to Europe in 1674. They called it piquet. In 1762, an Englishman named John Hogg created a poker made of ivory and ebony. This poker is now on display at the British Museum.

In 1876, a Frenchman named Etienne Aigner created the first metal poker. He made it out of steel and it had a carved ivory handle. In 1898, American J.H. Jennings patented the first fire poker. His poker had a brass handle and an enameled design on its face.
