Who Is the Blackjack Dealer in Rain Man?

Rain Man is a 1988 American comedy-drama film directed by Barry Levinson and written by Dustin Hoffman and Robert Benton. The film stars Hoffman, Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, and Joanne Woodward. The story follows Raymond Babbitt (Hoffman), a man with a savant-like skillset who is released from a mental hospital and must re-learn how to live in society. His brother Charlie (Cruise) helps him adjust to life outside the hospital.

Charlie introduces Raymond to the world of blackjack, which he quickly becomes an expert at. However, Raymond’s obsessive gambling causes financial problems for Charlie and tension between the brothers.

In the film’s climax, Raymond must face his addiction head-on in order to save his brother from foreclosure. With the help of his therapist, he decides to give up blackjack for good and start over.

As he begins his new life, he realizes that his skills as a blackjack dealer were just another aspect of his savant syndrome that he was able to take for granted.
