Who Won the 2009 World Series of Poker?

The 2009 World Series of Poker was a watershed event in poker history. Not only did it bring in a record $10.

5 million in prize money, but the finals of the event saw Phil Ivey become the first player to win back-to-back World Series of Poker championships.

Ivey’s two victories in the Main Event elevated him to a level of poker stardom that had only been previously attained by Erik Seidel and Chris Moneymaker. His remarkable consistency, as well as his ability to defeat some of the best poker players in the world, made him a dominant force at the high-stakes tables.

Despite Ivey’s dominance, there were other candidates for the title of champion. Antonio Esfandiari, Daniel Negreanu, and Phil Hellmuth all had chances to win multiple tournaments over the course of the series, and each played an important role in determining its outcome.

In the end, however, it was Ivey who emerged triumphant, earning himself a record-breaking $2.7 million first-place prize and cementing his place as one of poker’s all-time greats.
