Why Is It Called Roulette?

Roulette is a French word that means “to roll.” It is derived from the Latin word rota, meaning “a wheel.” The game of roulette is believed to have originated in France in the late 18th century. Roulette was first popularized in casinos in Monte Carlo and Paris.

The game is played with a wheel, numbered from 1 to 36. The player bets on one of the 36 numbers that appears on the wheel. When the number is rolled, the player can win money if the number shown is their bet, or lose money if it is not.
